My Doula Journey
MY STORY
My fascination and interest in birth came with the preparation and birth of my first child in 2000. In those days that meant reading a huge stack of books on everything related to birth, babies, breastfeeding and more.
I credit my own doula as the inspiration for becoming a doula because through her support, as well as that of my midwives, I was able to really feel empowered and at ease during that birth. My partner felt informed and involved, and it carried on through the births of our four other children. From that time on, I became committed to providing nurturing, education and care for people before, during and after their babies are born. I trained to be a doula in 2006 and when I began the good work of preparing for labor attending births with new families, I knew I had found the right career for me!
I am so grateful for the doulas that showed me the way and for the families that invite me into this special time.
As a life-long learner, I continue to find new subjects around birth, babies and postpartum to learn about so I can better serve families.

MY PHILOSOPHY
Becoming parents is a major life transition—and I believe it needs to be treated with respect and honor. However much we study and know about birth and babies, they remain partially mysterious, and my job as a doula to hold space for all that arises in prenatal preparation, labor, birth and the sweet and challenging postpartum time. Each family needs slightly different support, there is no formula, and thus my goal is to listen, respond with compassion, ask questions and supply information and education when needed.

What Clients Say...

- Ana
(Birth Doula Client - Vancouver, WA)
"When I did go into labor, Sarah was my hero. She encouraged me the whole time, helped me get into a variety of positions to encourage the baby to move down, reminded me to breathe, and used multiple methods to ease my pain through contractions. Even though it was obviously very painful, I had a really positive birth experience and I largely owe that to Sarah. I can't imagine what it would have been like laboring without her and I'm so so so thankful that we were able to work with her. Sarah is absolutely INCREDIBLE! I couldn't be more grateful for the support and comfort she provided me."

"Sarah is incredible! As a first time mom, I was really nervous about labor/delivery and wanted an experienced doula to help me and my husband through the birth process. Sarah exceeded all expectations I had. First, she was a wonderful source of support as we approached the end of my pregnancy. She prepped my husband and I for the labor process, what having a newborn would look like, and answered all of our questions. She was non judgmental, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. She kept asking us questions to figure out what we did and did not want then supported us through that."

"From the moment we met Sarah, we felt completely supported in all of those aspects. Sarah's presence was very calming while I labored and pushed, and when I ended up needing to go in for a c-section, Sarah was a lifesaver supporting me and my husband. It was an upsetting experience, but Sarah stayed by our side the entire time providing comfort. After the birth, she continued to be a huge help with overnight shifts and daytime support. Her assistance with cooking, laundry, and baby care was a welcomed relief during such a demanding time. I am so grateful for everything Sarah did for us and I will always advocate for doula care!"

"We researched and felt that Sarah Doggett resonated with us the most. She has excellent communication and is very trustworthy. She wrote down detailed notes and is so knowledgeable about babies. She’s like the baby whisperer. She has lots of experience with raising her own family of 5. It is so easy to connect with her. I am very thankful she could not only watch our son but also take care of our dishes and make us breakfast that would last about a week! If you're a first time parent or continuing to grow your family and on the fence about a night nanny/postpartum doula, contact Sarah and meet with her. When it comes to health and wellness, this service was absolutely worth every penny."

"Best decision I've ever made postpartum. This is a service I wish existed when I had my first! I had a hard time asking/accepting help with my first kid. I kept telling myself that we could do it, we could do it all because every parent goes through what we're going through. It was kind of like a right of passage to suffer. But, I suffered greatly without the help. I developed postpartum depression that I didn't realize I had until after the fact, and I was overwhelmed with going from no kids to having an infant with colic. On top of that, I was healing and learning to breastfeed/pump and dealing with the expectations of becoming the parent I want to be and the guilt of not giving it my best every day or using formula."

"Sarah saved our family in the first few months after the birth of our second child. She provided us with the tools (& the sleep!) to more confidently parent two under 18 months. Not only did she help our newborn, Sophie, learn to sleep better, she was eager to problem solve all infant challenges with me and my husband and introduced us to the resources we needed to better enjoy this difficult phase. I am also grateful for the levity and perspective she brought as I navigated the next phase of my motherhood journey."
