my doula journey
MY STORY
My fascination and interest in birth came with the preparation and birth of my first child in 2000. In those days that meant reading a huge stack of books on everything related to birth, babies, breastfeeding and more!
I credit my doula as the inspiration for becoming a doula myself. Because of the support from my doula , I was able to feel empowered and at ease during my birth. My partner felt informed and involved, and that empowerment carried on through the births of our four other children.
From that time on, I became committed to providing nurturing, education and care for parents in their birth journey. I trained to be a doula in 2006 and when I began the work of attending births with new families and guiding them through their journey, I knew I had found the right career for me!
I am so grateful for the doulas that showed me the way and for the families that invite me to support them during this special time.
As a life-long learner, I am passionate about finding new subjects around birth, babies, and postpartum to learn about so I can continue to better serve my families.

MY PHILOSOPHY
Becoming parents is a major life transition—and I believe it needs to be treated with respect and honor. However much we study and know about birth and babies, the birth experience is partially mysterious.
My job as a doula is to hold space for all that arises in prenatal preparation, labor, birth. And of course to bring that same intention to the sweet and challenging postpartum time after parents bring their baby home. Each family needs slightly different support.
There is no formula, as every family is unique. My goal is to listen fully, respond with compassion, ask real questions, and supply information and education to bring empowerment and calm.

What Clients Say...

"We were introduced to Michelle after our original doula didn't work out. As new parents who felt burned by our initial Doula, we felt stressed and lost, and Michelle came in and made everything right. She was fantastic with our son. She helped us understand what he needs and when he needs it. She shows up on time. She listens well and offers advice when asked for. She's kind and knowledgeable and realistic. Her goal is to take care of your child, support your family, and do so with openness and warmth. She does that extremely well."

"Michelle was our sibling support doula, looking after our 18 month old while his brother was born. Hiring Michelle was one of the best decisions we made in the lead up to the birth. Michelle is warm and engaging and our son took to her immediately. Seeing how well they hit it off really put our minds at ease, knowing that our son would be happy and very well looked after, so we could focus on the birth of our new baby."

"One of the main reasons we looked into postpartum support was so we could still give individual attention to our toddler, either from us or someone else, but we were nervous since she’s very timid around new comers. But Michelle is such a sweet and caring individual with a real gift for connecting with kids, our daughter quickly opened up to her on the very first day and eagerly awaited the days Michelle would come over."

"I cant express how much I appreciate Michelle and the help that she was during the process of my pregnancy and the birth of our daughter. Due to some unexpected events, our birth plan had a couple curve balls thrown at us, but yet so much of our birth plan was successful and both my husband and I feel it had a lot to do with the help of Michelle. Michelle encouraged me, helped me stay focused, and kept reminding me my body was made to give birth naturally just like I wanted. She walked up and down the halls with me, she massaged me, she gave me words of encouragement and so much more."

"I felt safe from the moment Michelle arrived. I was in labor, and as contractions came she rubbed my back and helped me breathe. When things got intense, she knew just what to do. Her calm and reassuring presence was so steady and helpful for both of us. My husband was able to gather the things, drive the car, get us to the hospital, and be right with me during the labor while Michelle supported us both. As my baby was born, we were all triumphant together. I had such a positive, empowering birth experience and I am certain that Michelle was instrumental in this outcome. If you are looking for a doula, hire her! We were so lucky to find her. We are continuing to work with Michelle in the post-partum and she has been so supportive to our new little family during this huge life change. She helped teach me how to care for my baby, from her first bath to learning how to burp her. The love and care that she has given us is such a gift. We will be appreciative for the rest of our lives."
