Tidbits About Me

I love to ski with my family and have gone skiing every season since I started at age 2. The mountains and snow bring me peace, healing, and endless fun!

I am an avid reader.

We welcomed our daughter at a freestanding birth center, and our son at a planned home birth.
My Doula Journey
MY STORY
I birthed my son at home, and my daughter at a freestanding birth center. Both experiences were wonderful, amazing, exhilarating, and transcendental! I felt loved, supported, and celebrated by my husband, midwives, and doula. I came to realize, though, that my experience sadly was not the norm.
Many of the moms who shared their birth stories with me had very different, sometimes even traumatic, stories to tell. I knew in my heart that I wanted to make a difference in my birth community so I became a doula. I strive to make this difference by supporting moms and their partners every step of the way, providing education on how wonderful birth can be, so they can give birth without fear!

MY PHILOSOPHY
I believe birth is sacred, transformative, and deeply forever life changing. My holistic approach is grounded in the philosophy of “mothering the mother”—offering continuous, respectful, and non-judgmental support that centers your voice, your choices, and your intuition.
Having experienced the beauty of midwifery-led, water-births with my own children, I’m passionate about helping families pursue birth experiences that align with their values. I work to remove fear and trauma by creating calm environments filled with warmth, intention, and affirmations.
I often integrate Spinning Babies® movements, massage, aromatherapy, rebozo work, and relaxation techniques to encourage optimal labor progression while honoring your sense of autonomy and dignity. I also love supporting partners—offering gentle guidance to help them feel connected, confident, and present.
Whether your birth is natural or medicated, my priority is that you feel supported and empowered. My care continues into the postpartum period, walking alongside families through the full journey of birth and beyond.

What Clients Say...

- Andrea E. (Portland, OR)
"Lavonne became my Doula only two weeks before I gave birth. She jumped right into her role with almost no time to prepare. I had 3 babies before and each birth experience left me traumatized. But this birth experience with Lavonne was completely different. She spent an entire night with me through hard labor keeping me calm, relaxed, and at peace through every single contraction. I would recommend her to anyone. pain. For the first time, I was able to have an unmedicated birth. Our situation was sensitive. I was giving birth to a baby whom we had been told has Trisomy 13 and would not live long after birth. Despite these painful regalities, the atmosphere around the whole birth was peaceful. The whole experience was peaceful and I’m incredibly thankful we had Lavonne facilitating it. I would highly recommend Lavonne as a doula."

- Jennifer G. (Vancouver, WA)
"Lavonne was wonderful to work with, very helpful to the family, and worked well as part of the team. She is attentive, smart, and loved by her clients. She is an awesome doula and so helpful!"

- Cia H. (Portland, OR)
"I can just go on and on about all the different things Lavonne provided for me but the biggest thing was when I had been at the hospital for two days and my water was broken by staff and I got the epidural to be able to sleep so I would have enough energy to push knowing I was on the clock. The midwives were pushing me for a c-section so hard. I was crying and had completely given up. I even said I don't even care any more. I just want this baby out of me. Lavonne reminded me that it is major surgery and that it is something that I stated I actually didn't want unless necessary for emergency reasons, but that she would support me if I still do. I am so incredibly thankful for Lavonne! And we have hired her again for our next upcoming birth."

- Howell (Portland, OR)
"I met Lavonne when I was just about 36 weeks pregnant. I was getting ready to have my first baby and I was terrified of the unknowns of the birth process. Lavonne arrived and immediately began reminding me of how my body is capable of giving birth to my child. She helped create an atmosphere at the hospital that felt safe and comfortable for me. When I had been at the hospital for a very long time and had been eating only jello for hours on end, I was lectured by a midwife about having a few bites of an apple. It was very hard to continue on with the hunger and loss of energy I was experiencing. Lavonne spoke to the main midwife on shift about this and they allowed for me to have a sandwich. This was huge for me."

- Roxanne C. (Vancouver, WA)
"Lavonne was an amazing advocate and helped communicate to the nurses my desires throughout labor. She also helped guide my husband and myself on different positions and movements to be doing during labor. I.e. using the birth ball, slow dancing with my husband and rocking on all fours. I loved that she also took pictures. Those memories of birth were so special and it's so wonderful to have those captured. The most helpful thing for me was Lavonnes use of massage and the tools she brought. She helped my husband know what to do which made such a special birth memory for me. She arrived at the hospital on time and stayed until I was happy breastfeeding and settled in for the night. I would highly recommend Lavonne be a part of my friends labors as a doula. She was fantastic!"

- Olivia B. (Vancouver, WA)
"Because of Lavonne I was able to labor the way I wanted, in the water surrounded by the ones I love and she was an advocate for me. “The water is too hot for her, she has a pupps rash, the heat makes it worse” she explained to a midwife when it was time to labor in the water. When I hit a stall I asked Lavonne if we could do spinning babies and we did the side lying release and soon after on July 3rd 2020, Caitie Joy came that early evening! I felt ready and prepared and I actually had no pain during the whole birth experience and I would say that has to do with Lavonne’s preparation and what I could do as a woman, that God created me to do this miraculous moment. I felt so empowered and confident and full of joy that I knew I could give birth at home the next time and I did! Extremely grateful for my birth experience and would change nothing about it due to Lavonne."
